(no subject)

Over the weekend two Tulsa, Oklahoma men are suspected of killing three black men and wounding two others.

Two years ago the father of Jake England</a> was shot and killed in front of him by a black man, which is the suspected motive for his and William Allen's shootings. Three months ago his girlfriend committed suicide in front of him. The day before the shootings, he posted on Facebook: "It's hard not to go off between that and [my girlfriend] sheran I'm gone in the head."

Just over ten years ago Andrea Yates was convicted of the drowning murder of her five children in a bathtub, which was later appealed to guilty by reason of insanity. Yates sincerely believed that her bad parenting would send them to hell, and that by killing them they would go to heaven. She had a long previous history of psychological issues, suicide attempts, and psychiatric hospitalizations, which were exacerbated by post-partum depression.

The United States has a pretty poor history in the recognition and treatment of mental illness. Both of the above cases came after many, many warning signs missed by friends and family, in a country where mental illness is vilified and mocked, and whose mental health treatment ecosystem is patchy at best. Both were easily preventable. Both were failed by society.

These two people are far from the first victims of this damaged environment, and will not be the last.

National Review Sez “Racists? Oh you mean RACISTS! Why we had no idea RACISTS were writing for us!

First it was John Derbyshire who got booted from the National Review for writing a staggeringly offensive piece that included the claim that “The mean intelligence of blacks is much lower than for whites” and advising his children to “not settle in a district or municipality run by black politicians” or “act the Good Samaritan to blacks in apparent distress, e.g., on the highway.” NRO Editor Rick Lowry, in his post announcing the firing of Derbyshire, observed that “Derb has long danced around the line on these issue,” “these issues” apparently being race, and “dancing around” being Derbyshire describing himself as a “mild and tolerant” racist during a 2003 interview.

And lest there be any doubt about what “mild and tolerant” meant, Derbyshire followed this interview up with a 600-word clarification on race and how important it is -- like, for example, Chinese people are a little smarter than white people. And therefore, private discrimination is okay.

In short, anyone willing to just kind of skim Derbyshire’s writing, while deliberately lowering his or her own IQ, could easily miss the fact that the man is a venomous racist.

And now another one bites the dust...

Is Zimmerman guilty of Murder?

OK I'll be the first to drink the Kool-Aid.

Clearly the best thing to happen is for Zimmerman to be charged. Mob rule is clamoring for this guy's ass. A court of law will make this as clear as the OJ case that Zimmerman's son, er, well..whatever.

Time to go to trial or is he clearly within the SYG law?

Will a jury trial be bigger circus than OJ, now that there is a real internet in place?

If you were on the jury and you know know what you have heard, would you vote to convict?

Why or why not?

ETA: yup! Pretty much sums it up
